Recent research suggests that making your bed every morning can improve your mood, and I can see why. I’m personally a really organised person, I like my flat to be tidy and clean, I write lists wherever needed and my calendar on my phone has everything in it. Being organised makes me feel in control and happy, and the same goes for making my bed everyday.
Here are the facts..
Making your bed encourages other good habits
Doing something small like making your bed before you head off to work or set out for the day gives a small but very real sense of accomplishment because you’ve achieved something before you’ve even started the day! For me it makes me want to continue the day in a successful and organised manner and tackle those to-do lists head on. It spurs me on to tidy up a little more at the time, too.
It lowers stress
It’s been proven that decluttered space lowers stress levels. I don’t know about you but looking at a messy room makes my head hurt and definitely stresses me out. I feel so much more relaxed when I walk into my bedroom when the bed is made and it makes me feel like I’m on top of things.
It makes bedtime so much better
I love my bed, but it’s less inviting when it’s messy and there’s clothes thrown all over it. If my bed is made and my pillows are fluffed up and organised I’m in a much more positive state of mind when I go to sleep. So this is why I try to remember to make my bed everyday. I wonder what other good habits it will lead to?
